Leishan County in Guizhou Province is located among high mountains. There is an ancient branch of the Miao ethnic group in the area. They are famous for their women wearing short skirts, so they are called short-skirt Miao.
The Chixin Festival is an important festival for the Miao people to celebrate the harvest. On the morning of the Chixin Festival, the short-skirted Miao girls in the village all dress up in costumes and gather to dance the Golden Pheasant Dance to pray for a favorable harvest in the coming year alongside good health.
