New Year Picture - Gods of fire and thunder

This set of New Year pictures portrays the majestic figures of the gods of fire and thunder.

On the left, with a bird-like face and wielding a hammer, is Lei Zhenzi, the God of Thunder. His wings whip up wind and rain, while he commands thunder and lightning with his hammer. On the right stands Zhu Rong, the god of fire, clutching a gourd filled with flames and a bamboo tube to fan the wind, thus spreading the warmth and light of fire to humanity.

Considered protectors of family well-being, the gods of fire and thunder were believed to ward off evil spirits with their potent spells, controlling thunder and fire to shield families from illness and misfortune.

Launched in 2024 by the Fu Shun New Year Picture Store, this pair of New Year pictures is a remarkable addition to the traditional Yangjiabu woodblock printing technique.
