New Year Picture - the Door Gods (Shen shu & Yu Lv)
Legend has it that Shen Shu and Yu Lv were brothers renowned for their proficiency in capturing ghosts. Whenever a ghost threatened people, Shen Shu and Yu Lv would apprehend it and feed it to the tiger. As a means of warding off evil spirits, people began affixing the portraits of the brothers to doors to ensure family safety.
In this collection of New Year pictures, Shen Shu occupies the left as the door god, with Yu Lv on the right. Despite donning full armor and clutching war hammers, their smiles create a friendly atmosphere, eliciting a sense of warmth and happiness.
This particular New Year picture is meticulously printed on antique rice paper at Heng Xing Yi New Year Picture Shop in Yangjiabu, Shandong Province, boasting a rich history of over 100 years.
